Category: Instructional, Kung Fu, Pressure Point
Year: 2005
Director: Jwing Ming Yang
Summary:
Learn fast and powerful joint locks to control any opponent. Chin Na (Qin Na) means Seize and Control. This ancient Shaolin art is the study of controlling an opponent through joint locks and acupuncture cavities. Chin Na is part of almost all Chinese martial styles, and it can be a valuable addition to any other martial system. This video is the first in Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming's extensive Chin Na video series, and provides an excellent overview to the art of Chin Na, beginning with the essential Chin Na speed and power fundamental training routines. Dr. Yang and senior student Ramel Rones demonstrate over 125 Chin Na techniques and applications close up, in slow motion and at regular speed, showing subtle variations for these effective techniques, which are introduced in the following categories: Finger, Wrist, Elbow, Shoulder, Neck, Waist, Leg and Takedowns. Easily integrated into any martial style, Chin Na is the root of the more modern grappling arts of Aikido and Hapkido, and it is often trained by military, security and law-enforcement personnel worldwide.

This dvd is state of the art with menus, previews and extras. As far as the instruction goes has to be one of the best, just like the book!!! If more dvd were like this there would be a lot's more experts. Easy to follow along. 5 of 5.

This video is a great introduction to Chin Na. This tape has finger locks, wrist locks, shoulder locks, and leg manuevers for take downs.

This is no Dr. Yang's best video. I have one of his Chin Na In Depth videos and it is much better instruction. this video shows many locks but not very well, not great detail, not verbal instruction like his other videos. Im not sure why this video is getting so much attention.

From what I gathered you need the book for this to really be worth your wild. Without the book you are kind of lost, just watching the techniques with no verbal instruction whatsoever. The beginning section with the workouts and fundamentals is good, there is some explanation to go along with it. Wasn't my favorite.

I agree with the last two posts. It's a great refresher if you have experienced chin na of any type, maybe even akidoist would find it neat and way easy. the whole thing is just one steps pretty much. the fundamentals are pretty good, i like the grabbing stones and the footwork introduces the hips for power. which is why i don't think it's the grail you should have hip power even if all you do is box(no disrespect). at least it's a good demo not an instructional at best a refresher. i just don't trust that you'll learn it well from one angle and usually one speed.

Unlike some of the other reviews I really liked this dvd. Chin-na is not something you will learn from a video or book, you have to spend a lot of time learning and feeling working with a partner to get it right. This dvd gives you good ideas where to start exploring with partner work.

I'm from the 'didn't care for it camp,' and feel the techniques are impractical.
Opponents were too compliant & pose unrealistically after attacks & the techniques weren't taken to their zenith.
It could have been better had it had some verbal instruction & had Dr. YJM shown how to finish a technique.
I believe catching punches is idealistic, and adversaries won't stand there while you attempt to apply these locks in the street.
However, I'd recommend renting it for yourself as there's obvious disagreement & wide divergence of viewpoints regarding this DVD.
Mako
Mako has no clue on how to set up Jointlocks realistically speaking.
You cant just stand there and expect some one to comply. They wont they will fight.
I beleive he is from the "MMA does it all crowd". But yet if you listen to police radio. They pull off countless numbers of these locks. Time and Time again.

I thought this was a very good instructional DVD. I mostly got it because I have some old tapes by Jwing Ming Yang and this was a compilation of almost everything on one DVD. It's something good to know and can be applied to any art. It only enhances our Jujutsu both stand up and on the ground. If You have any back ground in joint locks, or joint compression techniques, You will enjoy this DVD
